Is Tantra all about sex?

Tantra is a spiritual path, and its main focus is always meditation and spiritual growth. But what is special about Tantra, it teaches us that the whole world is divine, including us, including every our aspect, even our sexuality.

Most spiritual paths have rejected sexuality, seeing it as something dangerous or sinful. Tantra takes the opposite view. It says that sexuality is part of nature, part of life, part of the divine energy moving through the body. If we reject it, repress it or feel guilty about it, we cut ourselves off from a huge source of vitality and aliveness.

Tantra is not about becoming obsessed with sex. It is about becoming conscious. It is about bringing awareness into every aspect of life: eating, breathing, loving, moving, relating and yes, also sexuality.

Sexual energy can move down and out through unconscious repetition, or it can move inward and upward, becoming ecstasy, creativity, love, meditation and spiritual awakening. Tantra teaches us how to work with this energy consciously, so that it nourishes the whole being.

In Tantra, sex can become a meditation, a prayer, a doorway into deep love and even into the experience of the divine. But it is only one doorway among many. The real essence of Tantra is learning to say yes to life in all its forms and discovering the sacred in everything.
